Lions We Serve

Lions We Serve

The Chippewa Area Lions held their annual White Cane Days September 1st and 2nd this year at WalMart in Chippewa. The Lions want to thank everyone who have contributed and supported our event over the years. Proceeds from this fundraiser go to support the blind charities in the area.

Who Are The Lions?

The Chippewa Area Lions are a group of local, community-oriented people, who raise monies through various fundraisers to support the Beaver County Association for the Blind - The Lighthouse - as well as the hearing impaired and physically handicapped.

The Chippewa Lions have numerous community projects such as the student of the month, academic scholarships, monies to the community Library (located in the Municipal Building) to provide large print books and other reading and listening materials.

The Chippewa Lions and The Little Beaver Lions co-sponsor an annual Drug Poster contest at BIS and a Leo Club at Blackhawk High School.

Lions Clubs International is the world's largest club organization with 1.3 million members in approximately 45,000 clubs in 202 countries and geographical areas.

Lions are men and women who volunteer their time to humanitarian causes. Founded in 1917, the volunteer organization's motto is "
We Serve".

Today, Lions extend their commitment to sight conservation through countless local efforts, as well as through their international SightFirst Program, which works to eradicate blindness.

Lions also collect and
recycle eyeglasses for distribution in developing countries year round and especially during May, which is Lions Recycle for Sight Month, and October, as a way to mark Lions World Sight Day, which is held the second Thursday of each October.

Lions make a strong commitment to young people through many youth programs.

Lions work to improve the
environment, build homes for the disabled, support diabetes education, conduct hearing programs and, through their foundation, provide disaster relief around the world.

It is estimated that each year Lions clubs donate approximately $449 million and 76 million hours, which is equivalent to more than 31,000 people working full time for a year.
